What is it?
Laser Acupuncture uses Low Level Lasers, aka Cold Lasers (class 3b, non-surgical lasers) to stimulate the acupuncture points, treat pain and swelling in local tissue and promote healing. This safe, painless therapy uses infrared light in the non-ionizing part of the spectrum (the type of radiation that does not damage cell DNA).
How does it work?
Low level therapeutic lasers promote healing by literally providing the cell energy to heal in a process called bio-stimulation. The cell converts the photon light energy into cellular energy (creating more adenosine tri-phosphate, the powerhouse molecule of the cell) so that stagnant, injured cells can begin to repair and return to their proper function.
Functional MRI research has found Laser Acupuncture and needle acupuncture create similar changes in brain activity.
Who Can Benefit?
Laser Acupuncture may be used successfully in place of needles in some patients or in addition to traditional acupuncture techniques. Since 2004, I have incorporated lasers into my practice for:
Children, needle-phobic patients, musculoskeletal pain/swelling, arthritis, tendonitis, lymphedema, fertility.
