What is Functional Nutrition

Functional nutrition uses a personalized approach which takes into account individuality to create strategies that prevent, manage, and treat disease and optimize health. Assessment may include labs to determine underlying imbalances in your biochemistry, for example, evaluate your nutrient status, your oxidative stress and inflammation, your metabolism, genetic differences that may affect risk for nutritional deficiencies, and gut health. Not everyone needs every lab. Your history and symptoms will help guide me.
I am certified in both personalized nutrition and functional medicine with decades of experience in herbal medicine. Herbs can be remarkable healing tools for their synergistic effects and bioavailability of their compounds. While medications target a single metabolic pathway, foods and herbs work on multiple pathways and systems to promote health holistically. Nutritional supplements may be needed, however, to jump start your path to better health.
